How Not To Embarrass The Kids

How not to embarrass the kids: our expect Hillie Marshall, a counsellor with eighteen years experience, gives you some tips on how to avoid embarrassing your children.
-
Step 1:
-
Meeting their friends
-
When you're meeting their friends remember you're the parent you don't have to be one of them. Just be yourself, be natural. And whatever you do don't recount anecdotes from their childhood. Give them space, don't overcrowd them. Don't use any current jargon, it'll make you look ridiculous. It will make your children cringe.
-
Step 2:
-
Not in front of the children
-
Nothing will fill your children with more dismay than if you start behaving inappropriately. By all means having a cuddle on the sofa or hold hands, but nothing more.
-
Step 3:
-
Giving advice
-
Try not to inflict your views onto your children. It's their life. Try to give the pros and cons of any situation and let them make their own minds up. You'll have a far happier family if you do this.
