How To Clean Silverware With Tomato Ketchup

How To Clean Silverware With Tomato Ketchup

Is your silver jewellery all tarnished and you haven't got a silver polishing cloth? Don't dispair just yet as you can use regular tomato ketchup to achieve the same effect. Amazing, lets show you how!

Step 1:

Get dolloping

Get your ketchup and dollop out a load into a small dish.

If your cleaning a ring, bracelet or earring that has a smooth surface then just pop it in to soak for a bit.

If it has a more detailed surface then use an old toothbrush to work the ketchup into the crevices.

Step 2:

Rinse & Dry

With a bowl of water rinse the ketchup off the jewellery and dry thoroughly to reveal your lovely clean silver thanks to the natural acid found in the tomatoes!

It's not true that it is due to the acidity in the tomatoes. That is one thing, but the ketchup also has more acid added, namely vinegar, which we all know is great for cleaning many things. If it was just the tomato acidity, we could have used a slice of tomato to rub things or soaked in canned tomatoes or tomato juice. But that is not as effective as ketchup! Coke might be good for this too, since it's great for rust. I have used it on rust lots of times, e.g. on bicycles, and it works wonders!
