How To Have A Great Relationship With Your Mother In Law

How To Have A Great Relationship With Your Mother In Law

How To Have A Great Relationship With Your Mother In Law: This relationship has traditionally challenged writers and comedians, so here is a simple guide to tackling it, with VideoJug's help and advice from counsellor Hillie Marshall. Learn how to create a great relationship with your mother-in-law with these easy steps.

Step 1:

Respect your mother-in-law's feelings

Make her realise you're not trying to take her son away from her. You're here as her son's partner and your friend. You should realise that she's had a great friendship with her daughter - you should give them time and space together.

Never criticise her son or daughter to her. Find out about your partner's childhood, encourage her to tell you the stories and show you the pictures.

Step 2:

The right approach

Don't try to divide your partner's loyalties. Never moan to your partner about your mother-in-law. At some point you may come to a crises with your partner, you mother-in-law can be someone you can go to for help and advice as someone who'll know both of you very well.

Well, I don't know what I did wrong. I only met her once for dinner at her house. I greeted her warmly. She seemed very happy to meet me. I was very ladylike, nice manners. I did not try to steal her son, I offered to take her out whenever she'd like after she said her children didn't like to take her to her favorite places, I listened to her tell me something sad, and I offered to clean after the meal. When I was leaving, I was very gracious. I think I was very sweet. BUT I never saw her again. This was 1-1/2 years ago. He never gave me any feedback. I don't know why he continues this relationship. I think his family hates me and I don't know what I did which was so wrong.

Those where all things you shouldn't need a video to tell you. I need a video on how to deal with your mother in laws over involvement, criticism and the stupid things she says because she never thinks before she opens her big mouth. Got one for that?
