How To Pitch A Pop-Up Tent

How To Pitch A Pop-Up TentThis film will show you how to pitch a pop-up tent. A great video showing simple instructions in the art of tent pitching from picking the location, unpacking the tent, guy ropes, and pegs.

Step 1:

You will need

  • Your tent which will come with
  • some tent pegs
  • You might also need a mallet to hammer the pegs securely into hard ground.

Step 2:

Choose a good location

Find a flat area, ideally on ground higher than that around it. This means your tent won't flood when it rains and you won't be sleeping on a slope.

Don't pitch beneath trees as this can be dangerous. Falling branches pose a risk, as do lightning strikes in bad weather.

In most campsites you will have a set area as your pitch. But if you are camping in a crowded field, don't plonk your tent too near to somebody else's. Sound travels easily between tents, and you may need some space for guy lines and cooking. Give yourself a 6 metre berth from any neighbouring tents.

Step 3:

Prepare the Area

Clear away any stones, sticks or other sharp objects that may damage the floor of your tent and make the ground uncomfortable to sleep on.

Step 4:

Unpack

Remove the tent and pegs from the tent bag.

Step 5:

Pop-up

Pull off the restraining band. The tent will 'pop' open. Turn the tent the right way up with the door in a position you are happy with.

If you are forced to pitch on an incline or uneven surface, ensure the door faces downhill to prevent the tent flooding.

Step 6:

Peg

Secure the tent to the ground by putting pegs through the loops at either end of the tent.

Push or hammer the pegs into the ground at a 45 degree angle towards the tent. This stops the wind uprooting them.

Your tent may have extra peg positions along each side. If so, peg out each one.

Step 7:

Guy ropes

The tent will have guy ropes already attached. Secure the guys ropes into the ground at either end. Guy ropes are adjustable in case you are restrained by space. Adjust the slide to make the ropes as taught as possible.

Step 8:

Final Check

Stand back and admire your work. Make sure that each guy rope is secured and that the pegs are sunk into the ground. If anything looks wrong, correct it.

Haha! I did the same - half a second to put it up, 3 hours to put the bloody thing away! If you're still having difficulty and it's a tent like the one in the vid... 1. Fold up the front & back of base, pinching together so you can hold the whole tent in one hand 2. Still pinching, stand it on it's end 3. Fold the top 'hoop' down & under, so the tent folds in on itself. You should have two smaller hoops now that slide over each other 4. Kneel, kneel, kneel - get all the air out & the elastic band on quick! Someone else posted this link to help: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3712262970258138228

The easy part is pitching it. The very hard part is folding it up.
