I fly more than 100 flights a year for work, and these are all good suggestions, but for some with small eustacian(sp?) tubes, these won't be enough. I always travel with a product called EarPlanes. You can find them in most of the airport magazine shops. They look like ear plugs, but they have a tiny ceramic cylindar inside them that moves in and out with the air pressure. The movement gives you a little bit of "lag" time to pressurize your ears.

I was recently on a flight and I had a bad ear ache.. I have flown before w/o a problem but this time I had a running nose and the pain was so bad it felt like my ear drum would explode I asked the flight attendant and she said to yawn and it worked like a charm.

Try to yawn! This should help a lot. Even if you´re not tired, if you pretend yawning a few times you will feel relieved.

If you have a vold you ae congested and you are going to feel pressure in your ears, you do need to be on some decongestant medicine but I would say take it a couple of days before your scheduled flight.

I don't just get earaches; I feel like my ear/head is going to explode! I asked my doc to recommend something but he couldn't. Everytime I fly, I end up crying my eyes ourt for the last 20 minutes of the flight...any help/suggestions?

if you know you have a cold, or if you've previously suffered from an earache while flying, take an over-the-counter decongestant one hour before you fly. This works every time!

you might look a bit silly doing that.. I put on my ear plugs and chew gum which helps to generate saliva that when swallowed relieves pain

To avoid an earache from happening, I believe you should wear ear pulgs to block it.

sip water on the plane or swallow. When you are taking off or landing, swallow every minute or so.

Usually what I do is swallow some saliva and the earache will be relieved, but it wont work if you have a cold.
